VOICES OF STUDENTS

Cheng Chen

President, Student Government Association

Cheng Chen is the current president of the Student Government Association. She moved to the United States in 2016, and has been majoring in Business Administration at BMCC since the fall of 2018. An Out-in-Two scholar and member of the dean’s list, Cheng has been accepted by Columbia University and Cornell University for the fall 2020 semester. She enjoys working among a team and always feels inspired by her peers. For Cheng, facing challenges is like collecting pebbles that help pave the way to becoming a better person. She has gained a CPR certificate in order to help people in urgent situations. Besides that, Cheng cares about the environment; and enjoys puzzles, problem-solving, and reading, preferably with a cat on her lap. As the first member of her family to attend college, Cheng hopes to earn a degree, provide a better life for her family, and go on to help improve the planet in any small way that she can.

Ana Maldonado

Valedictorian

Video Arts and Technology major Ana Maldonado moved to New York from Colombia with the dream of a better life. At BMCC, she maintained 4.0 GPA while working at the 9/11 Museum in Visitor Services and participating in the BMCC chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success, Phi Theta Kappa and BMCC Learning Academy. “I like documentaries,” Maldonado says. “I have a passion for editing and every time I come up with an idea for a film, I think about the impact that idea can have on the world. I hope to raise environmental or social justice awareness. BMCC has given me a reason to fight for my goals and to push myself to the limit.”
